About RILEY STEGMAN

"My name is Riley Stegman and it was my idea that Jacob Noble brought to life in “Gold As Ice”."

When my son was 18 months old, he was diagnosed with cancer, and it was a very scary time for my family and me.  At the time I was a Wichita Thunder Hockey season ticket holder and most of the booster club sat around me in section 110 at games.  The booster club rallied the whole hockey community and other partners to support my family in this overwhelming time.  From this generosity sparked the idea that became what we now know today as “Gold As Ice”.

I knew then that I wanted every child to share in what was given to my family.   In the hockey community when a team’s logo on the front of a jersey allows you to put your own name on the back of their jersey to play for them it creates a unique bond that hockey players do not take lightly.  This bond is what I want every child diagnosed with cancer to feel when I made the decision to take a portion of the money raised for my family and put it to use to design Gold As Ice’s original jersey.

I wanted every child I encountered that was fighting for their lives to know they were a part of a team and supported by one of the greatest communities in the world.  I decided to do this by creating a logo for all kids fighting cancer, and what better way to support them than by removing our own names and placing theirs on the jerseys instead.

Jacob was my team Captain when I took this idea to him. What he has done with this idea is something hockey and childhood cancer families alike can be extremely proud to find connection with.  I can’t begin to thank him enough, and I am excited to see what he does next!
